Kiev has torpedoed ‘Energy truce’

March 25, 2025

Kiev does not want to honor ‘energy truce’

Many observers noted positively that ex-president Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement at a news conference on March 19, 2025 where he backed the US proposed pause in Ukrainian attacks on Russian targets. He claimed that he and President Donald Trump discussed the issue of proliferation a ceasefire accord “on energy and other civilian infrastructure” in their phone call. Zelensky even used the phrase: it would be “most likely” to apply the US initiative to “energy facilities” belonging to Ukraine and Russia.

“One of the first steps toward fully ending the war could be ending strikes on energy and other civilian infrastructure,” Zelensky later wrote on X social network after his call with the American president. “I supported this step, and Ukraine confirmed that we are ready to implement it.”

It would be better if President Donald Trump convinced him to formulate his statement not to attack Russian energy assets into a written form. However, such a logical step has not been made till now.

Despite these promises, Ukrainian attacks on energy facilities and critical infrastructure in Russia continued later the same day when the vague promise ‘most likely’ has been articulated by ex-Ukrainian president.

       Undeniable facts recorded in several spots in Russia between March 19-25 proved that the phrase “most likely” used by Zelensky at the news conference had a foggy meaning – not incorporated on a paper as a firm political commitment

It would be expedient that NATO and the EU should publicly appeal to former Ukrainian president Volodymir Zelensky not to attack Russian energy facilities, including nuclear power plants (NPP) – taking into account that Russia is abstaining from shelling Ukrainian energy assets, including NPP since the Ukrainian aggression started against Donbass since April 14, 2014.

The score about damaged energy targets between Ukraine-Russia: 5:0

The Ukrainian Armed Forces:

  • on March 19 hit an oil depot Kavkazskaya in Russia’s Krasnodar Region;
  • on March 21 blew up a gas metering station near Sudzha in Kursk Region in such a way that it will take two years to repair it;
  • on March 22 attacked operational gas-distribution station at Valuika, Belgorod Region;
  • on March 23 used drones against operational Glebovskoye gas condensate field in Crimea;
  •   on March 24 attacked by UAVs functional Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station belonging to the Caspian International Pipeline Consortium, Krasnodar Region.

Thus, Ukraine has violated the ‘energy truce’ suggested by President Donald Trump. Despite the statements made by Zelensky, including those announced publicly, the Kiev regime continues to plan, prepare, and conduct attacks targeting energy infrastructure, including the international one, situated on the territory of the Russian Federation.

Food for thought:

Can the current leadership in Kiev be trusted that it will honor and respect

‘any type of ceasefire agreement’ or ‘any broad peace plan’ with Moscow if it torpedoes proposal not to attack energy facilities on the basis of reciprocity?

Meanwhile, by noon Moscow time on March 25, 2025 Moscow has not attacked any Ukrainian energy facility, but it warned that it reserves the right to retaliate to such Ukrainian strikes
